This is the image for the news article titled Welding Students Tour Republic Elite On Manufacturing DayEleven Marshall High School Welding students enjoyed a tour of Republic Elite’s Marshall production plant on Oct. 9 as part of participation in Manufacturing Day.

MHS students joined students from area districts in a Manufacturing Day tour of Republic’s facilities, starting with a welcome presentation that included discussion about a career in the cabinet industry. Republic staff also discussed education pathways that will benefit a student in a career in the industry, expectations of manufacturers and safety requirements.

Following an extensive tour of the manufacturing plant, students were treated to a lunch provided by Republic Elite.

“Our goal is to make sure students know that we have careers at all levels, from unskilled production jobs where we train them everything they need to know, to CNC machine operators, engineers, supervisors, managers and accounting,” said Jeff Kroyer, Senior Vice President of Operations at Republic Elite. “We are trying to partner with our local schools more, which is why we chose to participate in Manufacturing Day this year. This was promoted by the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association (KCMA), of which we are a member.”

Manufacturing Day (MFG DAY) addresses common misperceptions about manufacturing by giving manufacturers an opportunity to open their doors and show, in a coordinated effort, what manufacturing is — and what it isn’t. By working together during and after MFG DAY, manufacturers will begin to address the skilled labor shortage they face, connect with future generations, take charge of the public image of manufacturing, and ensure the ongoing prosperity of the whole industry.

Created by Founding Partner Fabricators and Manufacturers Association, International in 2012, MFG DAY has enjoyed support from many organizations aligned with its mission of positively changing the public perception of modern manufacturing. Organizations that have played a vital role in working with FMA to successfully grow this national celebration of all things manufacturing include the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), the Manufacturing Institute (MI), and the National Institute of Standards and Technology's (NIST) Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP).

MFG DAY is now produced annually by the NAM with key contributions and support from the MEP and the MI.
Republic Elite represents the coming together of Republic Industries and Elite Multifamily Interiors specializing in countertops, combines over 50 years of experience designing, producing and installing multifamily unit kitchens and bathrooms.

During the tour, MHS students observed the construction of cabinets, desks, and storage units. Students got to see all processes from laminating to assembling to shipping. The CNC router cutting equipment Republic Elite uses is similar to what students use in the MHS welding shop, just on a much larger scale. Students also learned that Republic Elite offers tuition reimbursement for many positions as well as on the job training for some positions.
