Tuesday’s focus was on Math and Science. MJHS will host another Parent Academy on Feb. 6, focusing on Reading and Social Studies.

“I want to thank our parents, students and teachers who took the time to attend this event,” said MJHS Principal Yolonda Martin. “This is an important step to give our students more chances to succeed this year. It was a true cooperative effort. MJHS is committed to partner with our parents so that our students have the best opportunities possible.”

Parents received instruction from teachers and staff on logging in to the TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills) Resource, which provides information on expectations of what students should be learning this semester. MJHS teachers and staff conducted an overview of the spring semester curriculum, provided tips for teaching strategies at home, and gave technology access to parents in an effort to help bridge educational gaps between schoolwork and homework.

MJHS Student Council and Maverick Blitz offered their services to provide childcare for smaller children so that parents could attend the sessions without distraction. MJHS cheerleaders were also present to provide some timely cheers, and snacks and refreshments were provided for the participants. Students in attendance were rewarded with free dress passes.

“We encourage our parents to attend our next Parent Academy on Feb. 6, focusing on ELA and Social Studies,” Martin said. That event will begin at 6:00 p.m.

The event was one of just several planned at MISD elementary campuses and junior high campus throughout the spring. Check your school calendar at www.marshallisd.com for dates and times at each campus.
