Volleyball Drops Home Match To Mt. Pleasant

PleasantThe Marshall High School volleyball team has gotten off to a bit of a slow start in District 16-5A play, falling to 0-2 in the early going of league action with a 25-13, 25-23, 25-22 loss to Mt. Pleasant in Maverick Gym Tuesday night.

A slow start Tuesday doomed Marshall in the first set, as Mt. Pleasant jumped out to a quick 8-2 lead that ballooned to 20-12. The Lady Tigers started quick again in the second set, rolling to a 7-2 lead before the Lady Mavs roared back to get within 3, 23-20 to eventually lose the set by just two.

In game three, Marshall got off to a much better start but were behind by 3 again, 23-20, before the Lady Tigers finished off the set and the match with a 25-22 tally.

Ja’Kiya Fisher led the offense for Marshall with 7 kills, while Kiari Johnson added 6 kills and a block. Maycee Griffin led the defense with 8 digs.

The Lady Mavs (7-18, 0-2) will host Atlanta in a non-district matchup Friday at 4:30 in Maverick Gym before returning to district play next Tuesday at Greenville.
