Dyslexia

As defined in the Texas Education Code Section: 38.009 (1), "dyslexia" means a disorder of constitutional origin manifested by a difficulty in learning to read, write, or spell, despite conventional instruction, adequate intelligence, and sociocultural opportunity.

The purpose of MISD’s Dyslexia program is to provide students with the skills and strategies needed to “unlock” the code of reading. Students who qualify for dyslexia services are instructed using multisensory structured language programs. The MISD dyslexia service model is designed to provide reading intervention for children identified as having the characteristics of dyslexia.

The goal of these services is for the students to gain mastery of the skills needed to become independent readers.
